If you’re like most business owners you know you should be blogging but you also wonder when you’re going to find the time. Many entrepreneurs also know they are not writers. They are experts in their niche, but writing is not their forte. We do have 3 ways to blog more for your business and that will help you put out content your potential clients want without putting too much stress on you.
We know that entrepreneurs need to ask themselves, “how much do I make per hour and how much will it cost me to write a blog post?” Look at your hourly rate and ask yourself if it might save you money in the long run to hire a professional to do your blogging so you can concentrate on your core competencies.
Businesses need blogs and I say that because of the benefit and SEO juice they bring to your website, but also because you don’t want to rely on social media for all your client interactions and as your knowledge sharing base. If social media goes away, then where is your business? Have you nurtured and fed your website so a new client could find you? Your blog feeds your website, its SEO and your social media posts and newsletter content.
Here are tips for blogging, being productive with the writing tasks and building your business.
3 Ways To Blog More For Your Business
Take heart, you can get your blogging game up to par and make the most of your SEO and keywords!
- What will you write? How often will you write? Do you have a unique industry that lends itself to particular holidays or how tos or top ten lists? Craft an editorial calendar and map out the content so when you sit down you’re prepared to start writing. The time you put into an editorial calendar will be time you don’t have to stress about when you sit down to write.
- Write every day. Even if you don’t post a new blog every day. Make a plan to sit down and write. Strengthen that muscle by using it. Also, if it is a struggle to write a blog post, space it out over the course of several days. Once you know how many posts per week you’re going to write, plan out how many days you want to devote to writing each post.
- Do a video blog. Video is king as is audio. Consider starting a podcast instead of writing a blog post BUT be aware that you don’t want to just start a podcast with no forethought. You want to put out a high-quality product because if your podcast sounds like it was recorded in a train station and is difficult to understand or if it wanders from topic to topic, you won’t gain any followers. The same goes for doing a video blog. Production value does matter.
BONUS TIP: Understand why you want to blog. Once you know the reason behind your blog you will be more likely to keep up with it and your content will be focused. If you’re just blogging because someone told you to do it, that’s not a good enough reason. Are you blogging to share knowledge, sell something, sign up new clients, etc. No matter the reason, you should have a strategy behind it so it makes sense and helps you get a return on your investment.
If you don’t have the time or the skillset to blog, hire a professional copywriter or blogger. Talk with Rex Richard for more insight on a blogging strategy to grow your business and its reach.
