Does your business lend itself to photos and to images? Many businesses do — dog grooming, swimming pool construction, graphic design, cake decorating, etc. — if you have a business that can be shared through photographs, you should be utilizing the power of Instagram.
How can you make the most of Instagram and become a power user? Here are some tips:
- Make use of the filters that Instagram provides. You can try a variety of filters with your photos before you post them. There are filters that deepen the shadows, make the colors pop, add sepia tones and more. Try them on and see which makes your photo look better.
- Manipulate the filter. You don’t want to upload every photo through Instagram’s filter without doing a bit of “work” on it. Click on the “sun” icon and edit the photo.
- The best posting times for Instagram have been shown to be 6 am or 5 pm.
- You do need to upload your photos to Instagram through a smartphone, but that doesn’t mean you have to take every photo on your smart phone. You can use a DSLR camera, upload to your phone then upload to Instagram.
- Don’t forget to hashtag your photos. Add a caption and then hashtag away. Use hashtags that are relevant to the content and subject of the photo. If there is a hashtag you follow, and you want your photos to be searchable by that hashtag, use it.
- As with any social media posting, consistency matters. Don’t simply set up an account, post once or twice then forget about it. Build your following by consistent posting.
- Post your best photos. Posting an inferior image will not help build your brand. Post the best photos you have access to.
